The Unsatisfactory Score of "Me"

In the TV series Black Mirror, season 3, episode 1 Nosedive. It tells a story about how the main character, Lacie tried so hard to boost her score that she could get the apartment she wanted but failed horribly at the end. There is one scene that Lacie bought the elevator buddy a croissant, but he punished her with a 3-star rating because Lacie was "ingenuine". This reminds me of the real-life situation when some people try so hard to please others thinking that their action would be appreciated. However, others can tell that they are not genuine and they make the situations even worse. High scores are like how people want to be perceived by others, even though sometimes it is not accurate at all.

Digital Writing Style: Chapter 11 Best Practices in Social Media

Chapter 11 talks about the best practices in social media. What I find most fascinating is the social media interest is high among journalists and that newspaper, magazines,  journalism, and social media are influencing each other. Steve Buttry, an active journalist on SlideShare.net, suggests that news organization community engagement equates to making a “top priority to listen, to join, lead and enable a conversation to elevate journalism” (Buttry, 2013). This chapter also mentions that "search social media platforms for possible new trends" which I find important when it comes to brainstorming new ideas for articles.

Digital Writing Style: The Skimm

The Skimm uses the hyperlinks in a neat and beautiful way. The links are always embedded as a part of a paragraph, and they are always the most important information of the whole paragraph and they are concise. The words used in hyperlinks are easy to understand and short; the number of words is from around one to nine; most of the time they are put at the beginning of a paragraph, other times in different parts of the paragraph. The potential weakness is that the readers can be easily distracted by clicking away from the website.

Chapter 5 discusses digital marketing, marketing and commerce, and how social media is making a huge impact on advertising. From this chapter, I learned that digital advertising existed before social media became huge. And after social media came out, it enhanced the development of digital advertising.

From the learning materials provided on BlackBoard, I learned that it could be illegal to use images from the internet. The fine can be from $750-$150,000. It is shocking to me because the action is so small but it could cause such big trouble. I also learned how companies find out about online users using their images inappropriately. This tells us that be mindful on the internet. Some unwanted or unintentional trouble might be cause for the lack of knowledge of the law.
